Chinese New Year

Assalamualaikum,

Heavy rain or not, the Chinese never fails to light up their fireworks come 12 midnight on Chinese New Year. It can be very noisy & loud if you are not used to it. Plus the fireworks can go on for 2 hours. So be prepared to get annoyed & irritated.

I have lived in a predominantly Chinese community area for 9 or 10 years now so I'm used to it and somewhat immune. What I normally would do is to sleep in early, say at 8pm so that when I awoke at 12pm by all those thunderous noise, I already had my rest. Or I can sleep through it.

It can be fun sometimes as you get to see all sorts of fireworks and it'll continue until Chap Goh Mei if I'm not mistaken (that is the 15th day of Chinese New Year). At my previous house, we usually get to see the Lion Dance group performing at my neighbour's house the next morning.

Oh yes! and then there's the 'mercun papan'. That one will surely get on your nerves..haha
