A TRIBUTE TO MY FATHER

Thursday, 21 June 2007
Third Sunday in the month of June is tribute to fathers around the world. I’m dedicating this entry to my beloved father. His name is Mahmud. He’s a lecturer in UiTM Shah Alam, Electronic Engineering. My father is 51 years old this year.
My father is special to me and I am my father’s daughter (I’m his eldest child)
Growing up with my father had been fun and still is. My father encourages me and my siblings to ask questions, do things that we have never done, explore the world if we need to. He never limits his children. His love for us is not the form of worldly materials. His love for us is in the way he prepares his 10 broods for the future. My father has no ‘harta’ nor has he any ‘hutang’. His only property is us, and I can assure you that he has invested very well in us. His monthly payment amounting to thousands for our school education is finally bearing fruit. I am an architect now because of my father persuasion. My 2nd sister graduated in quantity surveying also on my father’s persuasion. My 3rd brother is doing his 5th year medical in Ireland. My 4th brother just graduated with computer engineering degree. My 5th brother is doing his mechanical engineering degree. My 6th brother is doing Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia in Ipoh. My father wish to see him further studies in Egypt. My 7th brother and 8th sister are doing their SPM this year. My 9th sister is doing her PMR also this year and lastly my 10th sister is in Form 2. Of course my mother also played her important role in our upbringing. Her dua’ and prayers never left us until today.
I like my father because he can answer any of my questions. It’s good, because it nurtures my thirst for knowledge. My father is the cook of the house. He can whip up anything from nothing. You can ask any recipes from him. My 2nd sister always does, because she’s a full time housewife. My father doesn’t like to go to KL because he doesn’t know the way, so it is up to me and my brother to show him the way. When it comes to our education, my father is the kind that will go the extra mile. I remember he bought a SLR camera worth RM 1600 just because I asked him to, for my course. He even bought computers for us. My father never went to any of my convocation and my sister’s too. But deep down inside I know that he is proud of our achievement. When he is angry we usually keep out of his way because his anger can last for one day.
I would like to thank my father for driving me back and forth from home to university during my studies, fetching me at the commuter station every night when I used to work in Subang, ‘belanja’ daily necessities and buying my model making supplies (banyak pakai duit tu..)
My father loves fishing very much. He sometimes brings back a cooler box filled with fish. Of course my mother will complain who’s going to finish all this fish. In the end it was thrown away…but hey!! I love the fresh water fish he always caught. Yummy when it is ‘bakar’ in the oven. I know about fish, fruits, type of trees and cars from my father.
I never talk personal stuff with my father but I love him very much. To my father..I LOVE YOU..and mom too (I’ll do a tribute to you later..)
